I am an LPC Registered Intern with the Oregon Board of Licensed Professional Counselors and therapists. I have a Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with a concentration in Expressive Arts Therapy from Goddard College in Plainfield, VT. In addition to maintaining regular licensure supervision under Earlyn Smith, LPC, I also receive ongoing training and supervision in Expressive Arts Therapy.
I have worked in non-profit community mental health for the past 11 years. I have worked all over the United States, in both rural and urban communities. I have learned that above all else, truly compassionate care for mental health must come from a place of collaboration and non-authoritarianism. Growth comes from a place of internal, personal power – it is never imposed upon us by any outside force, especially not a coercive one. I believe that good care is trauma-informed, and that means acknowledging the dark history of the field, and working actively everyday to break down previously instilled hierarchies, labels, and ideas about “pathology” that fail to recognize the context of the system in which many of our struggles originate. I work hard to make sure that Garden of the Heart is a welcoming, nurturing, and judgment-free environment. I am always open to feedback, dialogue and discussion to foster understanding and growth.
Outside of my role as a therapist, I have a great passion for music and all things creative. It is not unusual to find me at a concert or browsing through the vinyl, compact disc, and tape selection at an independent record store. I also love expressing myself through creating calm, atmospheric ambient drone music with good friends. I am equally drawn to exploring the magnificent wonders of nature, particularly of the Pacific Northwest. I am generally most happy when exploring lush green forest trails, watching the waves greet the shore along the beautiful Oregon coast with my wife and small dog, or celebrating a performance by one of my favorite bands in a modest venue. You will find a more detailed history of my experience and education below. I hope this gives you a better idea about who I am and what is important to me. I look forward to learning more about you!
